![]() Injecting Pollen The Superior-Woods Tree Improvement Association is a not-for-profit corporation that serves to bring members together to cooperate in applied tree improvement activities and to foster and practice sound genetic management of the forest resource in Northwestern Ontario. The members agree that by working together in a spirit of cooperation they will improve their capability to obtain improved seed for reforestation. Figure 1 provides a map depicting the area of the Association. The Association is a member of Forest Genetics Ontario (FGO). The Association's office is located in the Faculty of Forestry and the Forest Environment at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay. The Association has two forms of membership, active members and association members. Active members participate in funding, supporting, and planning tree improvement programs and in practicing sound genetic management of the forest resources. Active members consist of agencies responsible for land management, and the Northwest Region of the Ministry of Natural Resources. Associate members are interested in the Association's goals and programs and provide advisory support relating to the genetic and historical aspects of the programs.
